Accidentally deleted files, files lost due to a program crash, files lost after having reinstalled the operating system, as well as files lost some other way can be brought back with the advanced data recovery tool Recover My Files. This application will scan your drives, detect recoverable data, and present it to you – you can then choose what you want to recover.

Recover My Files can be installed on a PC powered by anything from Windows 7 down to the quite old Windows 98. To install the application you need only download a 14.4MB executable, run it, and click through a very simple setup wizard.

When you launch Recover My Files you will be presented with a Tip of the Day and with a recovery wizard. If you don’t want to see these at startup, you need to go to the Options menu and uncheck Wizard on Startup and Tips on Startup. The wizard can be accessed any time by clicking on Start Recovery from the upper left hand side on the application’s interface. And speaking about the interface, it is divided into several sections to help you navigate through all the recoverable files. To the left there’s a pane that displays a list of recoverable files, grouped in categories – Folder, File Type, or Date. To the right there’s a preview pane that displays all recoverable files.

The aforementioned recovery wizard makes it quite easy to take advantage of the functionality Recover My Files has to offer. When you launch the wizard, you are presented with two options: Recover Files and Recover a Drive. Choose Recover Files to bring back accidentally deleted files, lost files, files that used to be in the Recycle Bin but you emptied it, files lost because a program crashed, or files deleted by malware. Choose Recover a Drive to bring back files lost after reinstalling the operating system, files lost after formatting a drive, if Windows says a drive is corrupt, if a drive letter is gone, or if a drive is displayed as RAW.

After you pick the recovery type, Recover My Files or Recover a Drive, you will be invited to pick a drive, and then you will be asked to pick a file recovery or drive recovery option. Recover My Files will then go to work, scan the drive you select, and present you with a list of recoverable files. Go through the scan results to pick the files you want to recover – please note though that the trial version does not let you do that. The trial detects recoverable files but does not let you recover them.

Data loss accidents will be a thing of the past with Recover My Files by your side. This powerful data recovery tool will bring back the files you accidentally delete or the files that are lost some other way.

Pros

You are presented with a recovery wizard that helps you launch the recovery process. Choose between Recover Files and Recover a Drive. Recover My Files displays previews of recoverable data, which come in handy when you want to recover lost images.

Cons

The trial does not recover data, it only displays recoverable data. Tip It is a good idea to back up the important data you do not want to lose. Data recovery may sometimes fail and you will end up losing your data.
